{"id":1782,"date":"2019-12-11T14:58:36","date_gmt":"2019-12-11T13:58:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.confluence.eu\/?p=1782"},"modified":"2020-02-05T15:59:50","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T14:59:50","slug":"wild-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.confluence.eu\/en\/2019\/12\/11\/wild-card\/","title":{"rendered":"WILD CARD"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The URBAN SPACE, part of the CONFLUENCE INSTITUTE, is proud to announce the first Wild Card of its semester long program. <\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This week long event is the exhibition of a selected individual, young and promising, developing a discourse challenging our contemporary world.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Between Monday, 16th December 2019 and Thursday, 19th December 2019:<\/span><br \/>\nSarah Lou Maarek, a young architect and artist, will occupy our exhibition space, located at the 11 rue des Arquebusiers, 75003, Paris.<br \/>\nTitled <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u2018From Furby with Love\u2019<\/span> this Wild Card echoes Marshall McLuhan famous affirmation: \u201c <em>We become what we behold. We shape our tools, and thereafter our tools shape us<\/em> \u201d.<br \/>\nUsing tools spanning from Visual Arts to Architecture, Sarah Lou Maarek is questioning the Y Generation relationship to Intelligent Machines.<br \/>\nIn this exhibition, the Furby &#8211; a toy with which her generation grew up with &#8211; becomes symptomatic of our relation to the so-called smart objects and technologies.<br \/>\nShe tries to answer the too often overlooked question:<br \/>\n\u201c <em>Why do I sometimes speak to my computer ?<\/em> \u201d.<br \/>\nWhile highlighting our trust in digital entities such as Alexa, Siri or Bixby, she questions our gaze on these personified technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Who is the master ? Who is truly the slave ?<\/p>\n<p>In a context by definition binary, she outlines a third option: the Doll, incarnation of all our digital fantasies and disorders.
